The best time to replace a coil is when its performance has clearly changed and basic checks do not restore it. Age alone is a poor test because liquid, power, and usage vary so much.
1. The burnt taste stays
A momentary dry puff may clear after refilling and allowing the wick to recover. A scorched taste that remains usually means the cotton has burned. Replace the coil rather than trying to overpower or wash away the flavor.
2. Every liquid tastes the same
Residue gradually covers the heating surface, particularly with sweet or dark liquids. Complex flavors begin to taste flat, muddy, or strangely similar. If a clean tank and fresh liquid cannot restore the expected flavor, the coil is likely finished.
3. Vapor drops with a charged battery
Weak output can come from low battery charge or a blocked airflow, so check those first. If power and airflow are normal but vapor continues to fall, buildup or worn wicking may be limiting the coil.
4. The wick is very dark
Some darkening is normal, especially with naturally dark liquid. Heavy black or sticky buildup around the wick, combined with poor flavor, is a stronger replacement signal. Color alone is not enough; use it with the other symptoms.
5. Flooding keeps returning
A loose coil, overfilled pod, damaged seal, or forceful draw can cause flooding. An older wick can also stop managing liquid consistently. If the tank is assembled correctly and the same coil repeatedly gurgles or spits, replacement may solve it.
6. The device reports a connection problem
First clean and dry the electrical contacts, then reseat the coil. If a compatible coil still shows No Atomizer, Check Atomizer, or an unstable resistance while another coil works normally, discard the problem coil.
Replace the right part
Some pods accept a separate coil; others seal the coil inside the cartridge. Check the manual before ordering. Match the complete product family and resistance, not just the shape.
After replacement, prime the new coil and begin near the low end of its printed power range.
