Vape airflow control explained

Airflow changes draw resistance, cooling, warmth, and concentration. Adjust it with wattage instead of treating the slider as decoration.

Vape airflow controls how much air passes through or around the coil during a puff. Opening it creates an easier, cooler draw. Closing it creates a tighter, warmer, more concentrated draw.

Airflow and wattage work together. A major change to one can require a change to the other.

What happens when you open airflow

More air cools the coil and dilutes the vapor. DTL and RDL coils usually need relatively open airflow because they operate at higher power. An open setting can also support a longer, easier inhale.

If the result feels weak, do not immediately jump above the coil's wattage range. Close the airflow slightly or increase power in small supported steps.

What happens when you close airflow

Less air makes the draw tighter and can increase warmth and flavor concentration. Close it too far and the coil may run hot, particularly at high wattage.

A whistle can mean the opening is too narrow or partly obstructed. Clean condensation from accessible passages before changing settings.

Match the coil style

MTL coils are designed for restricted airflow and lower power. DTL coils are built around open airflow and higher output. RDL coils occupy the middle. The label on the exact coil is a better guide than the shape of the device.

Adjust in the right order

  1. Install and prime the correct coil.
  2. Begin at the low end of its power range.
  3. Set airflow for the intended draw style.
  4. Make one small change at a time.
  5. Stop if the puff becomes dry or excessively hot.

Airflow cannot fix a hardware problem

Gurgling, a cracked pod, a loose coil, or liquid in the chimney needs troubleshooting. Moving the slider may hide the symptom briefly but will not repair a failed seal.
