How to stop a vape from spitting liquid

Hot droplets from a vape mouthpiece are called spitback. A flooded coil is the usual cause: liquid pools near the heating element, then pops when the coil gets hot.

Stop using it until the excess is cleared

Turn the device off and let it cool. Remove the pod or tank, wipe the mouthpiece and contacts, and follow the manual's instructions for clearing its airflow path. Do not look into the mouthpiece while firing the device.

If liquid reached the battery compartment or the device is damaged or unusually hot, stop using it.

Keep liquid out of the chimney

The center tube is for airflow, not filling. Angle the bottle tip into the designated port and fill slowly. Leave the required air space and close the plug firmly.

When priming a replaceable coil, moisten the visible cotton instead of pouring liquid down the center.

Use a gentler pull

A hard draw can pull liquid into the coil faster than it can vaporize. Small MTL pods normally respond better to a slow, steady puff. If you hear bubbling, ease off rather than pulling harder.

Check wattage

Power far below the recommended range can leave excess liquid behind. Power above the range creates the opposite dry-wick risk. Start at the bottom of the coil's printed range and adjust in small steps.

Check the liquid and coil

Thin liquid can flood hardware designed for thicker blends. Heat also thins the liquid, so avoid hot storage. If the setup previously worked and suddenly spits, inspect the coil seal and replace an old cartridge.

Some crackling is normal as liquid vaporizes. The problem is liquid reaching your mouth, violent popping, or constant gurgling.

Let the device cool before removing a recently used tank or coil.
