You cannot judge an e-liquid's fit by looking at the bottle alone. Use the VG/PG label, the coil design, and what the device is doing. Thick liquid tends to create slow-wicking symptoms; thin liquid tends to create flooding symptoms.
Signs the liquid may be too thick
- Flavor becomes dry during repeated puffs
- The first puff after resting is better than the next
- Cotton struggles even at the low end of the power range
- A small pod burns coils while remaining full
High VG content increases viscosity. Cold temperatures make liquid thicker as well, so allow a cold bottle and device to return to room temperature naturally.
Signs the liquid may be too thin
- Gurgling begins after filling
- Liquid reaches the mouthpiece
- The airflow path floods repeatedly
- A correctly assembled tank leaks through its air intake
Higher PG content is thinner. Heat makes liquid thinner too, which is why a setup can leak after sitting in a hot car.
Rule out setup errors
Overfilling, a loose coil, torn seals, blocked airflow, and incorrect wattage can mimic a ratio problem. Clean and reassemble the device before changing liquid.
Use the manufacturer's recommendation
Find the exact pod or coil page, not a general recommendation for the brand. A device family may contain several cartridges intended for different draw styles and ratios.
Change only the liquid ratio while keeping the coil, power, and puff style consistent. That gives you a useful comparison.
Compare it at normal room temperature
Do not diagnose viscosity immediately after bringing the device in from freezing weather or taking it from a hot car. Let the sealed bottle and device return to normal room temperature, inspect them for damage or leaks, and then compare performance. Temperature can temporarily create symptoms that disappear under ordinary indoor conditions.
