Why does a new vape pod taste burnt?

A new pod can burn on its first use if the wick is still dry, the liquid is too thick, or the power is wrong for the cartridge.

A new pod should not taste burnt. The most common cause is simple: the liquid reached the outside of the wick, but not the cotton touching the heating element. Using it too soon can scorch that dry center.

Stop after the first bad puff

Do not keep inhaling in the hope that the flavor will improve. Check the fill level and let the pod stand upright for another ten minutes. If the next short, gentle puff is clean, the wick needed more time.

If the scorched taste remains, replace the pod. Burned cotton does not return to normal after soaking.

Make sure the pod is actually full

Top-fill and side-fill pods can trap an air pocket that makes the liquid level difficult to judge. Keep liquid away from the center chimney and close the fill seal completely. Never use a pod while its wick openings are exposed.

Check for a protective seal

Some prefilled pods ship with stickers, plugs, or airflow covers. Remove only the packaging pieces shown in the instructions. A blocked inlet can prevent airflow or activation; forcing the draw will not fix it.

Match the liquid to the pod

Very thick high-VG liquid can feed slowly through small wick openings. Use the ratio listed by the device maker. If the manufacturer gives no ratio, the retailer or manual may identify the pod as intended for 50/50, salt, or high-VG liquid.

Do not assume nicotine type determines thickness. Read the VG/PG ratio on the bottle.

Check the power setting

An adjustable pod device may remember the wattage used with the previous cartridge. Confirm that the new pod's resistance is supported and begin at the low end of its stated range.

If the device selects power automatically, remove the pod, dry the contacts, and reinstall it. A poor connection may stop correct detection.

A defective pod is possible

If a fully saturated, compatible pod burns immediately at the correct setting, use another pod from the pack. Save the packaging and batch information if more than one fails. Contact the seller or manufacturer instead of continuing to use a questionable cartridge.
