Milliamp-hours, shortened to mAh, describe a battery's rated charge capacity. A higher number generally means more stored energy when comparing similar batteries, but it does not promise a specific number of puffs.
Runtime depends on how the device uses that capacity.
Why two 1,000 mAh devices can differ
Coil power, electronics, screen use, puff length, and cutoff behavior all affect runtime. A low-power MTL pod may run much longer than a higher-power RDL device with the same stated capacity.
Battery age and temperature matter too. Capacity gradually declines with use, and cold conditions can temporarily reduce performance.
Wattage changes energy use
Higher wattage draws more energy while the coil is active. Switching to a lower-resistance, higher-power cartridge can make a familiar battery seem worse even when it is healthy.
Compare runtime only after noting the coil and power setting.
Capacity is not charging speed
A large mAh rating does not tell you how quickly a device charges. Charging input, battery management, cable, and power source determine that. Use only the charging equipment specified in the manual.
Capacity is not a quality score
A large unverified number on a product listing is not more useful than a smaller rating from documented hardware. Look for clear specifications, protective features, warranty support, and charging instructions.
Removable batteries need exact matching
Do not choose a removable cell by mAh alone. The device maker's required chemistry, size, discharge capability, and safety instructions all matter. The CPSC warns against loose 18650 cells separated from battery packs and sold without proper protection.
Use mAh as one comparison point
Balance capacity with device size, intended wattage, charging access, and replaceability. A larger battery helps only if the rest of the device suits your routine.
